Introduction to homeopathy

Mondays 12.45-2.45. Starts September 19th 2011

On this course we look at the ideas and principles of homeopathy. Who founded it. What is it. We look at how remedies are made, how we find out what each remedy is useful for and what is potency. We also look at health and illness through the idea of susceptibility.

Remedies are made from just one substance, a plant, a mineral or an animal. Each week we learn about at least one new remedy, so building up a homeopathic first aid kit. We then look at how to choose which remedy to use in a first aid or acute situation - this is the art of homeopathy, how to choose a remedy? Homeopathy is holistic medicine chosen for the individual, we may all have chickenpox but we may all need a different remedy. This we learn through 'taking cases' in class.

Alongside all of this we also learn a lot about our selves. This is a course that helps us look at our own patterns of health and what our symptoms may be telling us about ourselves.

Students find homeopathy very interesting, there is always more to learn. I teach through much interaction and group discussion, the atmosphere tends to be  light and fun.

The first 10 weeks is an introductory course, to introduce to you the ideas behind homeopathy; what is it; where does it come from. The course is also about giving you practical information on remedies and how to use them for short term 'acute' problems, such as coughs and colds, first aid etc. By the end of the course, you will know 16 different remedies and how or when to use them.

Homeopathy is about medicine working with the body in a gentle but powerful way. It works with you to boost the immune system, deal with infections, repair damaged tissue, get you back to health. It gives you another alternative to pain killers, antibiotics etc.

The key to homeopathy is how to CHOOSE a remedy. This is holistic medicine, so you are treating the individual who has symptoms. For example, 10 of us could all have chicken pox, but we might all need a different remedy. In class, we spend a few sessions taking cases and finding a remedy. Its fun and its practical. A great way to learn how to choose a remedy.

The courses tend to be small groups of upto 10 people, so there is plenty of opportunity for questions with an experienced homeopath. It is also a space for personal development, and making your own connections between ill health and emotional issues.

Follow on Homeopathy Course

This course tends to run in the January term each year and you need to have completed course one first.

Once you get into homeopathy its hard to walk away and you may be left wanting more! This course looks at the much deeper side of homeopathy, at big 'constitutional' remedies ie: Calc Carb, Lycopodium, Sulphur. We also look at 'miasms', which is an idea that takes on board your whole families 'susceptibilities'; What illnesses run through your family? What emotional patterns run through your family?

This course is about looking at the really big ideas that are behind homeopathy, and where are you in all of this? Are you a plant, rock or animal? We look at 10 different remedies, and you may see some that your family members need!

Homeopathy Workshop

Monday 9.45-11.45. Starts September 19th 2011

The workshop is where students can bring all their questions about homeopathy, anatomy & physiology, particular diseases or remedies or anything of interest eg chakras etc. The students very much determine what we cover each term. You need to have completed an introductory course. For me, this is a lovely way to start the week, I enjoy it very much.

This course runs all year round, each term and you need to have completed course one.

The content of the workshop is very much decided by the students present. This term we are looking at more remedies, taking cases using a different method (Miranda Castro style with 'rubrics') and at menopause.

In the past we have done a lot of case work; holistic biology; homeopathic philosophy.

Again, it is an opportunity to do work with an experienced homeopath; practice choosing and giving remedies in acute situations; get to know yourself a lot more. Lovely group of people to work with.
