Seeing a Homeopath

Seeing a homeopath is a very personal experience. You may quickly find that you are telling me things that you have not mentioned for years or had forgotten about. Some of the questions may seem very personal, 'I have come about my eczema, why are you asking me about my marriage?' - a homeopath is not being nosey but trying to find out how you not only experience your physical symptoms but your emotions too. We may also ask what seem like bizarre questions: do you prefer the mountains or the sea? this is because we are thinking about remedies and trying to choose which one is most suitable to you.

Consultations can take place either at your home, but we do need a quiet, confidential space or you can visit me at my room in Chapel Allerton. During a consultation, I will listen carefully as you tell me about yourself and your health problems. This takes about 90 minutes. Afterwards, work begins on finding a suitable remedy for you as an individual.

The remedy is then posted to you. Usually it is a single tablet, but sometimes it comes in liquid form. Once you take the remedy your body is stimulated into action. I will ask you to notice your response to the remedy, including dreams, emotions, physical changes. During this time, telephone support is available.

A follow-up appointment is made a month after taking the remedy, where I assess your reaction to the remedy. Further appointments are then made as appropriate, depending upon the condition being treated and your reaction to the remedy. This usually involves monthly visits for a few months - generally, the longer you have had the condition, the longer treatment may take but I expect you to see changes after the first remedy.

Children in general are much easier to treat as their medical history is less complicated. This means that generally, they need far less visits. When treating babies and children I also need to know what was the pregnancy and the birth like, and the consultation involves more observational work than direct questioning.
